Job Description

Assisi Heights | Home of the Sisters of St. Francis

Salary: $90,000–$110,000 annually

Are you an experienced HR professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats, building meaningful relationships, and making a difference?

Assisi Heights is seeking a compassionate, hands-on Director of Human Resources to lead HR operations for our organization of approximately 112 employees.

As the home of the Sisters of St. Francis, Assisi Heights offers a unique, mission-driven workplace centered on respect, collaboration, and creating a welcoming, homelike environment. You don't need to be Catholic or share the Sisters' religious beliefs to succeed here. We're looking for someone who respects our mission, values people, and enjoys being part of a close-knit community.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of the full HR function while working alongside a supportive leadership team, Payroll & Benefits Coordinator, and additional HR office staff.

Why Join Assisi Heights?

  • Meaningful Work: Make a direct impact on employees and an organization dedicated to compassion, respect, and service.
  • Supportive Culture: Join a collaborative workplace where relationships matter and employees genuinely care about one another.
  • Beautiful Environment: Enjoy working in a peaceful setting surrounded by beautiful grounds.
  • Leadership & Ownership: Serve as the organization's primary HR leader and a valued member of the Operations Team.
  • A Team Behind You: Receive support from dedicated payroll, benefits, and HR office personnel.

What You'll Do

  • Lead day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, compensation, benefits oversight, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Advise and coach managers and employees on workplace concerns, employment policies, disciplinary matters, and conflict resolution.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and guide employee relations decisions with fairness, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, government reporting requirements, and HR policies and procedures.
  • Oversee HR recordkeeping, workers' compensation matters, payroll accuracy, and benefits compliance, including ACA and applicable continuation coverage requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership on compensation planning, HR budgets, employee safety, and organizational initiatives.
  • Supervise HR and front desk personnel while providing ongoing training and support to managers and staff.
  • Serve on the Operations Team, providing HR expertise and helping maintain a positive, respectful workplace.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Approximately 3–5+ years of well-rounded, hands-on HR management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Broad experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, employment law, compliance, compensation, and performance management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to explain HR policies and legal requirements clearly and collaboratively.
  • Sound judgment, adaptability, empathy, and a commitment to confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with HR or payroll systems.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background investigation, including a criminal history investigation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • SHRM, PHR, SPHR, or comparable HR certification.
  • Experience with HR budgeting, benefits administration, payroll oversight, and staff supervision.
